The TIM project & production

Our customer, a designer and manufacturer of customized industrial thermal equipment lines for various industrial applications, such as Aeronautics, Automotive, Rail, Plastics, etc., wanted to integrate TIM equipment into its Slush Moulding lines.

Slush Moulding

Various solutions have been found for feeding the mussels:

By dosing unit

  • As the molds pass under the feed zone, the feeders feed them by gravity.
    • Depending on the mold to be filled, a pre-programmed quantity of powder is injected into the mold's powder tray.
    • The slush feed head is equipped with a vibrating filtration system to prevent impurities from falling into the tank.
    • All feeders are fed from a multi-outlet buffer hopper. This hopper is itself fed by a big-bag emptying station and a flexible mechanical feeder.

By robot and gravimetric dosing

  • A big-bag emptying station feeds a hopper on a load cell. Depending on the mold to be fed, the weight setpoint changes.
  • Once weighed, the powder is fed into a bowl, which is then picked up by the robot and dispensed into the mold. This enables the powder to be distributed precisely, following the shape and location of the mold.

Using the flexible mechanical feeder, we transferred the micronized material to storage silos.

The powder is then transferred to its feed point

    • Either by filling the mould directly
    • Or by filling a container on a scale, which can then be used to fill the mold.

A feeding unit was developed for our customer to feed the mold directly by gravity, from a hopper on load cells.

Filled from a floor-mounted big-bag emptying station, the hopper is refilled when the remaining weight is no longer sufficient to fill a bin.

The operator then scans the mold's barcode, and the weight of the part to be produced is removed from the hopper.
